Art is an important part of the curriculum at St Joseph’s Preparatory School. This subject allows pupils to expand their creative skills to complement their academic studies. Art stimulates creativity and imagination, providing visual, tactile and sensory experiences; fostering a unique way to understand and respond to the world. Pupils use colour, form, texture and pattern in conjunction with different media and processes to communicate their perception of the world. Through art, our pupils learn to make informed aesthetic and practical decisions, becoming actively involved in shaping environments.
They explore ideas and meanings in the work of not only artists, but also craftspeople and designers. The diverse roles and functions of art are particularly stressed, supporting studies of visual culture, different times as well as in contemporary life. Through these subjects, each pupil is able to develop according to his or her strengths, creating well rounded and multi-disciplined students able to tackle all manners of tasks.
Children are encouraged to discover art with enthusiasm and commitment and are encouraged to be the very best they can be and our aim is for everyone to reach their full potential secure and happy environment.
