History at St Joseph’s seeks to foster in children a rich enjoyment, curiosity and interest in the past. The study of History is important if children are to develop their knowledge and understanding of the world they live in. Our aim is to give the children an understanding of chronology while developing their sense of historical enquiry.
In Key Stage One the children find out about the lives of famous historical people and events linked to their topics, as well as exploring changes in living memory.
In Key Stage Two the children study a range of topics including ancient civilisations such as Egypt, Rome and Benin, and several periods in British history including Stone-Age to Iron-Age Briton, the Vikings, the Tudors and the Victorians.
Through the use of workshops and field trips, we hope to help to bring our studies alive. We also use the internet for historical investigations and research.
