Admission to Grammar Schools in the Area

Selective School (Grammar) Tests

Selection tests are used for entry into Kent, Medway and Bexley selective (Grammar) schools. Many St. Joseph’s pupils aim for Grammar school places.

Senior school applications for state schools (including selective Grammar schools) generally need to be submitted by the end of October, with tests having taken place at the start of Year 6 in September. Further details can be found on the Bexley, Kent and Medway websites.

Parents must register their child if they are considering a Grammar school place. The school is unable to do this. The Kent Test will take place in school but for all other tests you will need to take your child to the venue allocated.

Bexley - parents must register their child online in order to sit the test. Registration generally opens in May and the link to the registration form will be available on the Bexley selection test webpage www.bexley.gov.uk/selectiontests

The closing date for registration is usually the beginning of July. Late registration will not be accepted.

Medway - parents must register their child online in order to sit the test. Registration generally opens in June and the link to the registration form will be available on the Medway webpage www.medway.gov.uk/admissions

The closing date for registration is usually the end of June. Late registration will not be accepted.

Kent Test (11+) - parents must register their child online in order to sit the test. Registration for the Kent Test generally opens in June and closes at the end of June/beginning of July. The test date is usually the first Thursday after the children return to school in September. Further details can be found at: https://www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/school-places/kent-test

Mayfield Grammar School, Gravesend – parents must register their child using Mayfield’s own form which is generally available from the beginning of June to download from their website or collect from the school. There is no option currently to register online. Forms must be returned to the school. Mayfield will hold an information evening for parents in June. The test date is normally the first Saturday after the children return to school in September and they run a morning or afternoon session which will be allocated to you once you have registered. You can not apply to Mayfield Grammar School if you haven’t taken their own test. For more details visit their website www.mgsg.kent.sch.uk/
