*If your child is aged between three and four and meets the date of birth criteria set by Kent County Council they will be entitled to a maximum of 570 hours Early Years Free Entitlement per year (EYFE). This can be taken in a pattern of up to 15 hours per week (3 hours per session or 5 hours per day) for a maximum of 38 weeks a year.
Early Years Free Entitlement
Parents of all 3 & 4 year olds are entitled to claim up to a maximum of 15 hours a week (570 hours per academic year) of Early Years Free Entitlement (EYFE).
St Joseph’s Convent Preparatory School offers three different patterns of delivery for the EYFE as follows:
A morning session in the Pre-Prep Class lasts from 8.30am to 12 noon. 3 hours’ EYFE will be given for each morning attended and the additional time will be paid for by parents. Children will have lunch and be collected at 12 noon when the morning session ends.
A full day session in the Pre-Prep Class lasts from 8.30 am -3.30pm. 5 hours’ EYFE will be given during this time and the additional time will be paid for by parents. Children should be collected at 3.30 pm or may stay on for After School Care, which will be charged for separately.
If parents want only to access their free entitlement, limited sessions are available each afternoon from 12.30-3.30 pm, 3 hours’ entitlement each afternoon. Parents must collect their child promptly at 3.30 pm. If some afternoon sessions in the Pre-Prep Class are already full, we may not be able to offer the full 15 hour entitlement, or if all afternoons are full they may have to join a waiting list until space becomes available.
The Government provides EYFE for a maximum of 38 weeks (570 hours) a year. 34 weeks (510 hours) are offered during the School’s published term dates.
Information regarding a child’s sessions in the Early Years Pre-Prep Class have to be sent to Kent County Council (KCC) at the beginning of each term and parents must ensure that they have returned the Parental Declaration form to the Bursar’s Office so that the entitlement claim can be made. It should be noted that once the claim has been sent to KCC, usually within 2 weeks of the start of term, it cannot be changed until the following term; so if a child increases their hours during the term or starts at half term no change in entitlement will be given until the following term.
The EYFE continues to be available once the child moves into Early Years Reception Class. Should Parents wish their child to access only their free 15 hours, until they have reached the age of five, their child can remain in the Early Years Pre-Prep Class as outlined above.
